New Leader Transition Process

The New Leader Transition Process (NLTP) is a programme designed to help leaders take charge in their new positions quickly and effectively, cut their learning curve in half, and create a foundation of trust with their staff. The NLTP session increases collaboration, team cohesion and team performance. The NLTP course functions like an efficient funnel that channels large amounts of important information into a single event.

Objectives

  • Bring the new leader up to speed on the crucial issues and opportunities for the organization
  • Identify and understand the critical external and internal stakeholders that affect and are affected by the organization
  • Accelerate the building of trust between the new leader and the staff
  • Begin to build a shared vision of the future in the organization

Schedule

The NLTP programme has several possible schedules. The schedule a particular client follows depends on (a) whether you need to use a Cross-Cultural Module and (b) if you choose to conduct the programme over one or two days.

Though the transition process can take many forms, three components are always present: an analysis of the key stakeholders relevant to the business unit, relaying to the new leader the staff’s perceptions and questions regarding the organization’s most pressing business challenges and organisational issues – the core of the program, and ‘demystifying’ the leader through a meeting with staff in which he or she answers those questions that the staff normally might not have the opportunity to ask.

The session should ideally be implemented from 5 to 45 days after a new leader fills a position. The sooner the better.
